NACSA Plenary: The Promise of Public Charter Schools: Expanding Quality Education for All (Chapter 4)
Description
The Promise of Public Charter Schools: Expanding Quality Education for All
Civil Rights issues continue to be at the fore in public education. Advocates promote charter schools as part of a civil rights agenda to improve educational opportunities, especially in communities of color. Yet charter school critics often seek to organize those same communities to oppose charter schools. Are authorizers and charter schools doing what needs to be done to meet the nation’s challenge of providing a quality education for all? Does local, state and federal policy support this goal? Join us at the National Civil Rights Museum for a candid discussion about the real challenges of expanding charter schools in African-American and Hispanic communities.
Featured Plenary Speakers:
Kenneth Campbell, President of the Black Alliance for Educational Options
Gloria Romero, former California State Senate Majority Leader and Executive Director of Democrats for Education Reform-California
Moderated by Lisa Graham Keegan, former Arizona State Superintendent of Education and Founder and President of the Education Breakthrough Network
