Researcher Gary Gruber has stated, “No other singular variable is more important for the health and vitality of a school than the way that it is governed. Teacher competencies, student achievement, parental and community support, adequate facilities and resources are all critical and essential for success. Governance will determine how those characteristics are initiated, managed, supported and promoted.” In the charter school setting, effective governance is vital for delivering on promises made to students, parents and the community.
